Colin Spencer: One of Gloucestershire's
Most Influential Business People
Our very own Chief Executive, Colin Spencer, was recently declared one of the Most Influential Business People in Gloucestershire by regional business magazine, West Business, and this is the story about his rise to the top.
Growing up in Ross-on-Wye and attending a local school, young Colin found he had a head for figures and continued to study hard until he became a CIMA qualified accountant in 1982. After honing his numerous numerical skills, he joined the world of big-money advertising, providing a steadying influence on the accounts team for Saatchi & Saatchi.
After 6 years working in the accounts office in Gloucester, Saatchi & Saatchi decided our Colin had even bigger financial fish to fry and he was promoted to Financial Director of the Facilities Group in London, the organisation's pre-press production group of companies.
Luckily for us, Colin decided to move on and shortly after, he arrived back in Gloucestershire to become Financial Director of The Target Marketing Group in 1994. Twelve years later, Colin's rise to the top was complete – he became our Chief Executive in 2006.
Colin says: "As a Chief Executive with a strong financial background, my aim is to provide a steadying and realistic influence in a thriving creative environment – it's driven me throughout my whole career but it's a very useful quality to have now, particularly in the current economic climate.
"It was great to be acknowledged by West Business and it showed just how many great influential business people are based in the county including some of Target's local clients such as SLG Beauty, Gloucestershire Tourism, Ecclesiastical, Hazlewoods, Travail, Gloucester Works and Parklife. We certainly aim to keep supporting business in the area – with a little financial sense and lots of creativity too!"
