Through its national charity partners – including Crisis, Vision Care, The Big Issue and other homelessness services – Specsavers is already making a huge impact to improve access to eye and hearing care for people experiencing homelessness.

The Challenge

Extending national impact to a local level

To mark World Homeless Day 2025, Specsavers was keen to elevate activity and roll out eye and ear care clinics nationwide. Delivered by stores and home visits businesses at a local level, the clinics would help ensure vital services were accessible to people facing barriers to care in the community – whether financial, residential or due to ineligibility for NHS support.

Our Solution

Turning local connections into community action

Using our long-standing relationships with more than 250 Specsavers businesses, we helped store partners and home visits teams connect with local charities to offer their support and deliver out-of-hours clinics in store or at pop-up clinics at chosen community venues.

Alongside this community outreach and engagement, targeted media relations helped to raise awareness of the activity. This meant the number of people who could be supported, beyond the established national partnerships already in place, increased.

We amplified the incredible work happening across the store network regionally – improving access to free eye and ear care for people experiencing homelessness.

We secured coverage that demonstrated how local action can fuel positive change while raising awareness of hidden homelessness within the community. Support with posting in Facebook community groups further increased awareness and community engagement.

The Results

Community-led care
with measurable reach

We provided support for 23 out-of-hours or pop-up clinics delivered by stores and home visits businesses which invited those affected by any form of homelessness in the local community to make use of their services.

The campaign has extended far beyond World Homeless Day too, continuing to deliver tangible impact for communities and charities alike.

Key highlights include:

  • Total campaign reach of 6,569,765, amplifying awareness of homelessness and access to care
  • 18 press releases created to support regional storytelling
  • 20 pieces of media coverage secured across a broad range of regional titles
  • 28 charity partners connected with Specsavers stores

By taking vital services directly into the heart of local communities, the campaign reinforced Specsavers’ long-term aim to ensure that everyone can access free, appropriate eye and hearing care.

”I’m incredibly grateful for the time and effort the Target team invested in this activity. Our goal was to increase the number of people we could support through our community clinics, and thanks to Target’s commitment to connecting our stores and home visits teams with small local charities, we’ve been able to significantly widen our reach. This collaboration has allowed us to provide meaningful support to smaller organisations that can so easily be overlooked. The campaign’s results speak for themselves and reflect the team’s dedication and the positive impact this work has had on the local communities we serve."
